Kinship care proved to be a sustainable alternative to prevent Institutionalization
|
Background |
Ayan Rashid, a nine-year-old, lost his father to cardiac failure in 2019. The sudden loss of father left Ayan and his two siblings in a vulnerable position, which further got complicated after the mother remarried in 2020. The children faced risk of institutionalisation. |

Interventions |
Their cousin brother, who is a CPG member in the village, decide to provide kinship care to all the children. This familial support provided a sense of stability during a tumultuous time. An application was also submitted for Mission Vatsalya Sponsorship in 2022, which was sanctioned. The children have received INR 36,000 for nine months together and will be regularly supported with INR 4000 per month onwards, creating a basic support system for him. Throughout this journey, Ayan and his siblings are also provided counselling support to help them cope with the loss of their father and adjust to the new family environment. The application of other two siblings is also being processed by DCPU/CWC and may be sanction sponsorship as well, which will further support the family. A local NGO has also assured a regular support to Ayan but is under process. |

Outcome |
Family separation was prevented, and a financial support system was created. |
